No! Please don't feel you need to spend money on testing first. Testing (whether saliva, urine, or blood) won't give you actionable information. Here's why: progesterone is produced as a result of ovulation. If levels are low, it simply means you didn't ovulate in that particular cycle—which has already passed and can't be changed.

Every cycle is unique, and you can only influence your next cycle with progesterone support. You already have the data you need: your age, whether your cycles are regular or irregular, and any cycle-related symptoms you're experiencing. That's enough information to give progesterone cream a try.

This formula is best absorbed through the palms of your hands and fingertips, where you have lots of sweat glands that act as excellent highways for the small progesterone molecules to enter your bloodstream.

For the best results, apply it to your palms, fingertips, or the soles of your feet. You can also use the groin area or face, but avoid areas with more subcutaneous fat like the belly, hips, or thighs—this makes absorption uneven. There is no need to rotate application areas.

The Application Plan:

Prep: Rinse your hands and forearms with warm water. Use soap if you have any products on your skin to ensure nothing blocks absorption.

Apply: For small amounts, rub into the center of one palm. For larger amounts, massage into your inner forearms using your palms and fingertips until absorbed.

Safety First: Keep treated skin away from children and pets. Do not pet animals or let them lick treated areas until you’ve washed your hands. Avoid sunbathing on treated skin.

Finish: Wait 15–30 minutes for full absorption. After that, you can wash your hands without losing effectiveness.

When it comes to Matriarch 20, less is more. A low dose progesterone is key to supporting ovulation, while a high dose too early in your cycle can actually disrupt it—and we definitely don't want that (though it's important to note: progesterone cream is not a reliable contraceptive).

Your Dosage Guide:

The Baseline: Use 5–10mg daily. One full pump delivers 10mg; half a pump gives you 5mg. You can split this into morning and evening doses or take it all at once. Find the rhythm that feels best for you.

For Heavy Bleeding or PMS: If you struggle during the second half of your cycle (the luteal phase), you need a higher dose. This is where you bring in the "big sister," Matriarch 100. Avoid using Matriarch 20 alone during the luteal phase, as a dose that is too low can actually worsen PMS symptoms. You need the higher concentration of Matriarch 100 for this phase.

Perimenopause: As cycles get more unpredictable, you may benefit from a little more progesterone. Use 1–2 full pumps morning and evening every day. Only take a 7-day break if a period actually arrives.

Postmenopause: Use 5–10mg daily without breaks. It's safe to use alongside MHT (Menopause Hormone Therapy), but please note: it cannot replace the prescribed progestin in your MHT—even if you were to increase the dose.

Timing is everything. If you are still cycling, when you apply the cream matters just as much as how much you use. Because progesterone needs to work with your natural rhythm, you shouldn’t use it every day. What if I don't have a cycle anymore?
It can still be incredibly useful. In perimenopause, you may stop ovulating, but the "hormonal crosstalk"—the body's constant, noisy attempt to trigger ovulation—never stops. This internal noise is what causes those frustrating symptoms. A small amount of progesterone acts as a calming influence, helping to quiet that crosstalk.

In postmenopause, things have usually settled, but you might need prescription MHT (with estrogen) if you have symptoms and to protect your bone health. Progesterone cream remains a great complement here, but remember: it is a support tool, not a replacement for the progestin prescribed in your MHT.

Pro-tip: Checking your product level
The label on the bottle is designed with a small gap so you can easily see how much cream you have left. When checking from the bottom, keep in mind that the first 1¼ inches (3cm) do not contain cream. This space houses the bottle base and the air-filled pump mechanism, including the piston that pushes the cream upward as you use it.

The expiry date is printed on the bottom of the bottle. Once opened, use within 12 months.

The cream can withstand freezing, as long as the texture is not grainy after thawing.

Store in a cool place, out of direct sunlight. Bottles can be refrigerated for long-term storage. However, do not apply the cream while cold, as it may not absorb as well. Let it come to room temperature before use.
